I loved the story line but as being married to someone in the Army I just could not get past all the military related mistakes. Isaiah has been in the Army for 10 years and he is only a Corporal. How can this be? He must be really bad at his job and the Army would have kicked him out by now. Please research your Army facts. I know this is a fiction book, but come on. It would have taken 10 minutes to realize that.Tags : Amazon.com: P.S. I Hate You (PS Series Book 1) eBook: Winter Renshaw: Kindle Store, ebook,Winter Renshaw,P.S. PS I Hate You PS Series Book 1 eBook Winter Renshaw Reviews
This was a cute read. I just wish that when people put military aspects into their books they DO THEIR PROPER RESEARCH, FIRST! It really works on my last nerve when they don’t as they are doing their readers a disservice.
Also, I get wanting to put sneak peeks in the back of books, but when it’s 1/3 of a book (or in some cases whole books) it ticks me off because you think there is more story to read.
Anyway... negatives
- No proper research for the limited amount of military referencing
- There was the whole thing with the neighbor boy that was unnecessary and basically was story filler. It added nothing to the story because that plot line went nowhere.
- Maritza, while a seemingly cool chick, was quite quick to jump to conclusions about being “ghosted” BEFORE getting information on Isaiah. Like, get over yourself, girl. He was in a war zone. It ain’t about you.
Now, on to the positives
- The dual POV is always appreciated, though the characters had the same voice a decent part of the time (the author should work on fixing that going forward).
- It wasn’t a ‘sex = deep, meaningful love’ kind of story. Yes they characters had sex, but that wasn’t the story. They actually spent time together (not horizontally).
This is my first time reading this author. While I think there is room for growth with her writing (like we all have room for growth in our lives) to make sure each character has a different voice and with research, I’ll read more from her.
I couldn't put my kindle down!! This book had me hooked before the first chapter ended.
Maritza and Isaiah meet by chance and strike up a friendship of sorts. Maritza isn't looking for a relationship and Isaiah is shipping out in a week. Which starts a week of Saturday's, where they spend time doing silly fun things. But both of them are starting to feel something, but neither wants to admit it out loud.
When Isaiah leaves they agree to write letters. Honestly my favorite part in the book.
But out of nowhere the letters stop and Maritza is devastated. Will these 2 get a second chance or will drama and lies get in the way?
Everything about this book was amazing. Maritza is a strong women who you'll respect and love because of her honestly and humor. Isaiah is tough to crack, but you just want to hug him and slap him all at the same time.
And if you still doubt that this is a great book...let me tell you a little something...I received an advanced reader copy and I still bought the book. Buy it now, you won't regret it.
I wanted to really love this story. I don’t hate it. I give a 4 Star because the storyline and burb really is sensational. I just felt like this story was broken up. The chapters didn’t quit flow for me. I kept referring back into the chapter to help remember who was she was referring to? I wanted more back info on the characters. I felt like the author rushed on the story. This storyline has lots of potential for a fabulous read but I didn’t get that. Again the plot felt rushed into an ending to quick. I will read more from this Author because I feel she is growing in her writing.
Your typical 'romantic' bullcrud story where two people have sex and pretend not to care about each other. She's a cookie-cutter big-bosomed chick and he's a ripped military dude. She has no tact and he has no manners. Yet somehow they bang and through a series of idiotic 'twists' they decide they love each other. Gag me.
The synopsis reminded me of Sincerely, Carter by Whitney G. A book that I loved. The price was low, so why not. What I got is one crazy person called Maritza. Maybe according to the author her behaviour was cute. I don't really understand why everyone has an issue with the H! She was soooo pushy! Is that attractive or funny?? Who falls for a guy that is being a jerk to you?! The girl pushed herself on this guy. She got pissed of he didn't want to spend his every day before deployment with just her. Many said in their reviews that he is d..g but her almost begging had me rolling my eyes! To me, she was plain stupid! I guessed that she would continue to push herself on him further when I stopped at 11% but I had enough! How he is supposed to treat her?!? Was good that he didn't slapped her!
So here's another case of the synopsis being great, but the full story falling flat.
I liked the Maritza we got in the first few pages, she was so normal. What we get after that is a pushy, you're going to love me or I'm going to boil your bunny in a pot crazy person. Who falls for a guy that is being a jerk to you?!
The girl pushed herself on this guy, she got pissed of he didn't want to spend his every day before deployment with just her.
The way she was with other men, she was like a cat playing with a mouse on a string, but got pissed at them for expecting more?!
Isaiah, he was bitter and needed a wake up call. He was Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde with Maritza, he claimed he didn't want her but kept coming back.
So maybe crazy was his brand of perfect.
I didn't see any connection between these two, barely even a legit friendship.
Here's where I'm going to be extremely critical, the military parts. At the point they meet he's been in about 8 years, he would be a Sgt. by then, not corporal, after another 4 years he should be staring at a rank of Staff Sgt, if you're still a Cpl you would not be in.
Deployment length, Afghanistan is a one year deployment not six months. And how was he coming back to L.A. after every one? There isn't an Army base in that immediate area.
His injury, he was in his barracks packing his belongings after, not in an immediate coma like he said. He also would have been medically discharged if his injuries were as bad as he said.
So many inconsistencies in this.
It would have taken 10 minutes to realize that.
