Edge of Chaos Love on the Edge Book 1 eBook Molly E Lee

I don't read NA often, but if the genre as a whole is anything like this book, then maybe I should start.

Edge of Chaos is a friendship first romance—one of my favorite types of love stories. Not only that, but the main character, Blake, grows tremendously throughout the course of the novel, escaping an emotionally manipulative relationship, and learning self-worth in the process of finding new love.

I found the book's depiction of the abusive relationship realistic; frequently, I found myself frustrated by the antagonist's actions, and repulsed by his behavior. I had no trouble imagining this man might exist, and likely does somewhere in the world today, and watching Blake treated so poorly proves how even "strong women" can fall into patterns of abuse without realizing it.

Really, Blake was the draw for me. She was funny and sweet, and her vulnerability struck me as relatable. The hero, Dash, was also a sweetheart: understanding, compassionate, if a bit reckless at times. All-in-all, I was satisfied with the way the romance unfolded, and was delighted to see Blake move from an unhealthy relationship into a healthy one.

Last but not least, if you're not sold yet, I have two words for you: storm chasers. Dash and Blake are storm chasers, y'all. 'Nuff said.

Edge of Chaos Love on the Edge Book 1 eBook Molly E Lee Reviews

Blake Caster wants to be a meteorologist. Not much in her life is going her way, but this is one thing that she is determined to achieve. Her controlling and self-absorbed boyfriend, Justin, doesn't treat her the way she deserves but Blake is resigned to stay with him. And even though Justin would frown upon Blake having other close friends, especially male friends, Blake can't help but strike one up with Dash Lexington. Dash is a professional storm chaser who is in her college class and also runs a blog that chronicles his storm chasing adventures with his friends John and Paul. Dash lives for the adrenaline rush of following tornadoes and invites Blake to join them on their team.

The development of Dash and Blake's friendship felt very natural and organic. Although Blake was attracted to Dash, it wasn't obvious if Dash felt that attraction in return, although they definitely became very close friends who spent all of their time together. And as a friend, Dash still treated Blake better than Justin could on a good day. What I liked was that the book wasn't entirely focused on the relationship and chemistry between Dash and Blake, where Blake was constantly fixating on her feelings for Dash, but more on what they shared in common in their friendship and how Blake slowly came to discover that she could do better without Justin.

For the parts that discussed storm chasing, that added a bit of a more thrilling and exciting element, especially because it was a shared passion between Blake and Dash. I enjoyed the growth in Blake as she came to her realizations over time. While it would seem that she was weak for staying with Justin, I actually empathized with her and admired her strength for tolerating him for so long and then finally standing up to him. Once things started to heat up between Dash and Blake, that part felt a little more rushed to me, namely because Dash's POV is not represented in the story and even a small snippet would have been a helpful contribution to know what he is thinking. Otherwise, good storyline and message overall.
This book is everything that I look for in a good NA romance! I cannot believe that this was Molly Lee’s first book. I think that this book was pretty balanced when it comes to plot elements. It was fun, but still talked about darker topics. It was cute, but it had a plot with substance. It was romantic, but also focused on great friendships.

I really liked the writing in this book. It was fun and fluffy, but it had some amazingly deep quotes. I also thought that the pacing for this book was perfect. Its flow was steady, but it was also filled with intense moments as well. I also liked the storm chaser aspect of this book. It added a quirky quality that made it stand out over other NA books. This book would be perfect for any readers interested in NA who don't not want to jump in with both feet. It has some steamy scenes, but it is not overly descriptive.

I really liked the characters in this book! I thought Blake was a great female protagonist. She is very relatable, but I can see how some people might find her decisions regarding Justin frustrating. All I can say is that Lee did a great job portraying their unhealthy relationship very accurately. The things Justin said and did might seem over-the-top and the way Blake justified it hit the nail right on the head. I also thought that Justin was an interesting character. Although he was horrible, Lee somehow made me want to know more about him and sad that he had lost his way.

Of course Dash was amazing! It was so refreshing reading about a male lead in a romance novel that was not a bad boy. Dash was the good guy, but just as swoon worthy as the typical bad boy. I liked that Dash let Blake make her own decisions, but stood by her side through it all.

I liked the friendship that started between Dash and Blake first and then slowly bloomed into romance. I also liked that this book does have some drama and angst, but is not over-the-top. I loved the friendship between Blake, Dash, and the other storm chasers. I am interested to see if there will be some spin off books about Dash’s friends.

Overall, I would defiantly recommend this book for new and advanced readers in NA. This is a perfect summer read!
I liked the story most of the time and I did not have trouble finishing it, but I lost patience with Blake because she was so weak. I could not believe how she allowed her loser boyfriend to treat her like absolute garbage. Time after time after time. Really. It was ridiculous. I can understand when your first love has an emotional hold over you, but this was too much. Yes, she felt guilty about something that happened when they were younger, but one has to draw the line sometime. And I'm not even talking about the weird sex! What was that all about? She should have kicked him to the curb at the end of the prologue.
I don't read NA often, but if the genre as a whole is anything like this book, then maybe I should start.
